OSU Student Chapter Celebrates 25 Years!

These are the tour pic's of the Gallagher - Iba Arena Retrofit at OSU which the Student Chapter took as part of their 25th Anniversary Celebration on December 9, 2000.   The construction was about 85% complete with lots of interior finishes being installed during that weekend.   Fall graduation ceremonies were held in the arena on the 16th and basketball games began a few days later.   Final is expected in February.   The arena seating is angled at a typical "hockey" slope rather than the more usual "basketball" slope which gives a close-in (on top of) view for spectators and allowed economies in design of structural members.  Even yet, note the huge depth of the girders shown in #9.   The skyboxes overlook the arena and the western concourses provided observation and seating to view the football stadium via the east endzone.   The basement has a running track and other facilities added, but no photographs are included here.

Here are the pic's of the reception and the cyber-talk we had during our celebration.   It was held in the OSU School of Architecture's Gallery.  

#1    What a beautiful cake.....represents 25 very good years!
#2    Group Shot:  " (a)  Da cake,  (b) newly framed 'original' charter,  (c)  thank you T-shirt, and  (d) one of the souvenir charter copies with autographs."   All who attended could take one of the autographed souvenir charter copies to remember this special occasion.
#3   Holly Martin, the student chapter's webwizard, demonstrate's the fine points of the cyber chatroom audio/visual communications that took place after the reception presentations and eats were completed.   From Las Alamos Randy Parks, founding president of the Student Chapter in 1975, and from Dallas Doug Hartman, FCSI, FAIA chairman of the Institute's Academic Affairs Task Team, both called in on the chatroom and wished us well in our anniversary doings.  One from Panama and others tried, but the technology slump bug was also present, much to our disappointment....no connections.

#9  Close-up of a portion of the Student Chapter's information board:  notice the plan/details of the "Canstruction Contest" that they won 2nd place at the CSI Annual Convention in Atlanta June 2000!!!   It was a spiral staircase which actually was able to stand and support itself....a major surprise....ur, accomplishment to all concerned.
